I’ve been through more Bug Out Bags in my career than most. Since writing Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag in 2012, I’ve outfitted and tested countless different Bug Out Bags. Finally, I’ve taken all the best features and combined them into one perfect Bug Out Bag. The features of this pack are almost too many to list!

50-LITER PACK

The BugOut72™ 50L Bug Out Bag shell is made from heavy duty waterproof nylon material. It’s lightweight but can handle extreme conditions and is proven in the field. The main compartment is 45 liters with a zipper divider between the upper compartment and the bottom sleeping bag compartment. The sleeping bag compartment perfectly fits the BugOut72™ Mummy Bag as well. The pack also features and upper extension collar under the hood which extends the capacity by 5 more liters, making the total size 50-liters.

THE MAIN SHELL

This is a hybrid internal/external frame pack with a visible 4mm steel frame beneath a stretched open mesh back. The air gap between the stretched mesh and the frame is about 2-inches and provides for incredible comfort and air flow. No more sweaty back while hiking!

STRAPS & WAISTBELT

Thick padded shoulder straps and waistbelt make this pack very comfortable, even when fully loaded. Waistbelt has side adjusting straps to control tightness on hips while hiking. There are 2 6-inch mesh zipper pockets on the waistbelt to stow items you need immediate access to such as phone or keys. There is also an 2-way adjustable chest strap. It adjusts up and down depending on torso height. Shoulder straps arrangement adjusts at BOTH top and bottom to distribute the weight exactly how you want it. The chest strap also has a built in emergency whistle. The whistle housing can be rotated up or down to prevent from being clogged with ice or snow in extreme conditions.

HYDRATION

Not only does the inside feature a rear hydration pouch but also a web hanger to prevent the hydration bladder from bunch up at the bottom of the pack. There is a sewn slot at the side of the pack to run the drinking tube as well.

ADJUSTABLE SIDE STRAPS

Each side of the pack has two compression straps to tighten the pack width or hold gear to the side of the pack, such as a tarp or sleeping mat. Each side also features a draw-cord bungee strap to help hold hiking poles or even axe handles with the bottoms seated inside of the side elastic mesh pockets.

RAIN COVER / SIGNAL PANEL

The very bottom of the pack houses a bright signal red waterproof pack cover if you find yourself in a downpour. Even though the pack itself it waterproof, this rain cover provides the ultimate protection. The rain cover also serves as a signal panel for high visibility. The ThunderCrow™ logo on the rain cover is printed in reflective metallic ink for extreme nighttime visibility as well.

SIDE MESH POCKETS

Each side of the pack has huge side elastic mesh pockets that can hold virtually any size water bottle. They are also the perfect space to stuff rain gear, ponchos, and more.

BONUS FEATURES

The adjustable pack lid includes an inner zipper mesh hat pocket.
2 Interior front and back flat pockets (rear pocket usually houses hydration bladder)
There is a double reinforced gear handle on the back top of the pack for lifting or hanging.
Front of pack includes an elastic mesh stuff pocket for items you might need to dry on the go. Also makes a great hat pocket or lightweight jacket pocket.
Zippered bag compartment features double zippers that meet in the middle and crab-lock together to prevent from accidentally opening while in travel.
