I’m bringing you a hatchet that’s made in the heart of Italy’s artisan steel district. Prandi is based in Italy’s picturesque Valsassina valley. While many people think of vineyards when they think of Italy, Prandi has been forging axes and hatchets for the timber industry in this valley since 1969.

At 1.88 lbs, the Valsassina Valley Hatchet is MADE IN ITALY from start to finish. It’s handled is carved from American hickory. Together they form pretty much the perfect camp axe. Whether splitting kindling for the fire or felling small trees, this hatchet can get the work done around camp.  It would make an incredible gift.

This hatchet does not come with a sheath but we have asked out friends at Shankle Homestead Leatherworks in Ohio to make one that fits it. This sheath is an available option for an additional $22. (Note: the leather handle guard shown in the photo is not included.)

Valsassina Valley

Prandi located in Valsassina, a mountain valley in Lombardy, in Northern Italy. The region in itself is well known for its deep-rooted tradition in the iron and steel industry and  for the artisan production  of tools such as picks,  hammers, knives, axes  and other cutting tools.
